The Phi Beta Kappa community, like the entire nation, has been shocked and grieved by the shooting in Colorado. On behalf of the national office, our campus chapters, and alumni members, we offer our deepest sympathy to all who are injured or suffering, to all who have lost friends or loved ones, and to the people of Aurora. Our records confirm that James Holmes was inducted to membership in Phi Beta Kappa at the University of California, Riverside in 2009. Our campus chapters induct about 19,000 students every year, and we have more than half a million members. We are citizens and students, parents and scholars, people from all walks of life, reflecting the American community. With the sympathy of the nation for all who are bereaved, our hearts go out in condolence and with hope for healing.
