The discussion will focus on Timothy Snyder’s book Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin.

Timothy Snyder specializes in the political history of central and eastern Europe. He has authored prize-winning books and numerous articles appearing in scholarly journals and news publications, is a frequent conference participant and recipient of several fellowships. Snyder’s Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin (Basic Books, 2010), translated into more than twenty languages, has won five awards including a ΦBK Book Award and the Leipzig Award for European Understanding.
Ian Buruma is a professor, writer, editor, journalist, filmmaker, and photographer who has authored over a dozen books, contributes regularly to literary publications world-wide, is a frequent guest lecturer and keynote speaker, and is the recipient of numerous fellowships and prizes. Buruma writes on a wide spectrum of topics of political and cultural interest. In April 2012 he was awarded the Abraham Kuyper Prize at the Princeton Theological Seminary.
