About the Position

The Society seeks a creative, and collaborative individual with strong organizational skills to provide program and administrative support for member engagement. Working directly with Phi Beta Kappa’s volunteer leaders on campuses and in local communities, the Member Engagement Associate will collaborate with the Director, Chapter and Association Relations, to build visibility for Phi Beta Kappa on chapter campuses, increase participation in alumni associations, and develop opportunities for the next generation of Phi Beta Kappa members and leaders. The Associate will focus on strengthening the Society’s national network of 290 chapters and 50 alumni associations and, as part of a close-knit national office team, have opportunities to contribute in multiple areas, including communications, events, development, and member services.
 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as national office contact for members, chapter leaders, and alumni association leaders seeking assistance and support with wide range of requests and inquiries, ranging from administrative needs to organizational policies  
  • Identify, assess, and respond to opportunities to build capacity and increase effectiveness of chapters and associations by sharing best practices and fostering innovation
  • Under the guidance of Phi Beta Kappa senior staff and executives, develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners, as a representative of the Society in order to further key strategic priorities
  • Research, plan, and coordinate visits and events with chapters and associations; support Phi Beta Kappa leadership on select trips to assist with logistics and volunteer engagement
  • Create compelling content for newsletters, websites, and other platforms with a focus on highlighting the activities of chapters and the opportunities that local associations offer for members
  • Develop and maintain an online portfolio of resources to support the activities of chapter and association volunteers
  • Contribute to planning and carrying out the Society’s major leadership gathering (Triennial Council) every three years, and support other Society events as needed
  • Monitor and support new member registration process with a focus on ensuring ease of use for chapter volunteers and student registrants
  • Maintain and improve systems for ensuring accuracy of member records, capturing relevant data on member participation and engagement, and creating reports that can be used to track progress on relevant goals
  • Prepare materials for meetings and conference calls with Phi Beta Kappa leadership committees
  • Coordinate chapter and association annual reports, prepare quarterly IRS filings, and assist with other administrative activities.

Qualifications Required:

  • Proven experience and demonstrated success with volunteer engagement and event planning
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a creative approach to problem solving and program implementation
  • Stellar time management and organizational skills, with the ability to work as part of team, in collaboration with volunteer leaders, as well as independently
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects with great attention to detail
  • A passion for the liberal arts and sciences and ability to motivate volunteers
  • Proficiency in large-scale email and membership database platforms, survey design, MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Studio (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) preferred
  • BA/BS degree, with Phi Beta Kappa membership preferred, but not required.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Some travel required. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until a successful applicant is found.
