Phi Beta Kappa Urges Members to Save the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)

November 2, 2023 - The Phi Beta Kappa Society played a pivotal role in the founding of the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities (NEA & NEH) in 1965. Historically, funding for the nation’s cultural endowments have received broad bipartisan support.

Last night, an amendment to the FY 2024 Interior Appropriation bill proposed eliminating the National Endowment for the Humanities. This threat to eliminate the NEH is an attack on research, education, and programs that are essential to the cultivation of our national heritage and civic culture.

Our partners at the National Humanities Alliance have provided ways for you to contact your representatives expressing your support for the NEH and asking them to oppose the amendment before it comes to the floor for a vote tonight, November 2. Please take action by visiting this webpage.

Please share with your networks and take action today. With your help, we can show Congress the imperative value of this critical agency.
