Mackenzie Hickson is a rising senior at Spelman College, majoring in Health Science with a minor in Comparative Women's Studies. Mackenzie is an active member of the college's Honors Program, serving as the Honors Program Student Association President where she facilitates event planning for Honors students and runs the bell hooks Junior Honors Program. Her academic interests explore how poverty is linked to the development of health disparities among Black urban populations and the connections of these conditions to incarceration, immigration detention, and disability. After completing her undergraduate degree, Mackenzie aspires to pursue her Master’s of Public Health and ultimately pursue a career in health promotion. In her free time, Mackenzie enjoys volunteering at an immigration detention center, reading romance novels, and traveling. She calls Austin, Texas home.
