Coming Fall 2019: Key into Public Service Scholars
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Phi Beta Kappa's Key into Public Service panel and reception on Capitol Hill. In conjunction with the event, Secretary Frederick M. Lawrence announced that Phi Beta Kappa will launch Key into Public Service Scholars, a pilot program awarding $5,000 scholarships to a cohort of 15-20 rising sophomore, junior, and senior liberal arts and sciences undergraduate students with an interest in pursuing public sector work.
To be eligible, undergraduate students must attend one of Phi Beta Kappa's 290 chapter campuses, and have an anticipated graduation year of 2021 or later. Phi Beta Kappa membership is not a requirement.
The Society will invite applications for the Service Scholars program in late fall of 2019, with awards announced the following spring. As part of the award, we plan to host a three-day convening for recipients in Summer 2020 that will provide face-to-face training and mentoring opportunities on pathways from liberal arts and sciences education into active citizenship and public service.
The application will launch on October 28th, and will be available until December 31st. Awards will be announced by March 31st, 2020.
