Join the Indiana Association on May 13 for their Annual Dinner meeting as they conduct yearly business and then hear from Ben Hanna, the Margot Lacy Eccles Artistic Director at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. Ben will give a talk entitled: Why Stories Matter: Theatre, Education, and Measuring Value
“As conversations in Indiana increasingly focus on how we measure the value of a college degree—often in terms of graduates’ earnings—it may be worth pausing to consider the broader purposes of education. As the Margot Lacy Eccles Artistic Director of Indiana Repertory Theatre, my work is rooted in disciplines like literature, history, and philosophy, which don’t always lend themselves to simple metrics, but remain central to how we understand ourselves and one another.
In this talk, I’ll share how I approach building a season at the IRT, from selecting plays to drawing on the theatre’s artistic strengths in bringing them to life. Along the way, I’ll reflect on how a liberal arts education has shaped my own path, and suggest that its value may be found not only in economic outcomes, but in the habits of mind and imagination it helps cultivate—qualities that continue to serve both individuals and communities over time.”
