• 22 Tuesday, Sep Online event National Key Connections Event: Finding Your Next Step: Building a Career Aligned with Your Values

The Phi Beta Kappa Society invites recently inducted members to attend Finding Your Next Step: Building a Career Aligned with Your Values on Tuesday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. This workshop, part of our annual Key Connections event series, will help young professionals learn how to navigate career decisions.

This 90-minute interactive workshop, hosted by Dr. Kylie Seltzer, is designed to help participants identify their core values and explore how those values can guide important decisions.

While personal values can shape choices in many areas of life, this session focuses specifically on using values to navigate career decisions and opportunities. Participants will consider what matters most to them and how their values can be weighed alongside practical factors, constraints, and other considerations when evaluating career paths. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of what a fulfilling career looks like for them and a practical framework for making values-based decisions as their careers evolve.

Space is limited for this event. We ask that you only sign up if you plan to attend. This helps us ensure that as many interested members as possible are able to take part in the session. This event will not be recorded.

About your Host:

Dr. Kylie Seltzer is a higher education professional, researcher, and coach whose work centers on helping people navigate change, recognize new possibilities, and build meaningful connections between their experiences and future goals. She currently serves as Senior Program Coordinator at Duke University’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship, where she fosters opportunities for students to incorporate creativity, entrepreneurship, and new ways of thinking into their academic and professional lives.

Kylie earned her Bachelor's degree and Phi Beta Kappa distinction at the University of Minnesota and her Master's of Arts and Ph.D. in the History of Art and Architecture from the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied the relationship between architecture and race theory in nineteenth-century Paris. Her career since then has spanned research, strategic consulting, community engagement, higher education, and coaching. As Research Strategist at Common Cause Consultants, she worked across sectors on research, strategic planning, and complex organizational and community challenges. She later served as the Zietlow Postdoctoral Fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Carolina Public Humanities, where she led initiatives connecting students’ academic interests with community engagement and professional development.

Across her career, Kylie has coached and mentored undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and professionals at various stages of their careers. Drawing on both this work and her own nonlinear professional path, she encourages her collaborators to approach career development with curiosity rather than as a search for a single “right” trajectory. Her work helps people make sense of where they have been, identify what matters to them now, and use that knowledge to make more intentional choices about where they go next.
